We made a post a couple weeks ago regarding four of the Panthers’ restricted free-agents that were extended qualifying offers (at the time), and those four included Quinton Howden, Alex Petrovic, Corban Knight, and Garrett Wilson. The Panthers made all eight of their qualified RFAs official today, so in addition to those four players, you can also add Jonathan Huberdeau, Jimmy Hayes, John McFarland, and recently acquired Greg McKegg.
Out of their 14 total restricted free-agents, the eight players above are the ones who have been offered contracts for next season. The 6 that were not qualified include Michael Houser, Shayne Taker, Jesse Blacker, Josh McFadden, South Florida-native Andrew Yogan, and Ryan Martindale. These players will become free-agents on July 1st and will be free to sign with any NHL club.
The RFAs that were qualified can either accept their contracts they were offered or decline them and go to arbitration or sign an offer sheet which the Panthers can then either match or receive draft pick compensation for. Harvey Fialkov of the Sun-Sentinel says Huberdeau is close to being resigned and others have said Jimmy Hayes wants more than what the Panthers are offering him, so the team may find themselves trading him or going to arbitration for the second straight year.
