The Panthers announced today that forwards Quinton Howden and John McFarland have accepted their qualifying offers, agreeing to one-year, two-way deals. Both played last year for the San Antonio Rampage, and Howden will be looking to earn a roster spot with the Panthers when training camp opens in September.
Howden, 23, is coming off a season where he tallied 18 points in 33 games with the Rampage. Howden missed 43 games due to two separate upper-body injuries, and he was named the Rampage IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year at the end of the season. It is possible that Howden could play in a fourth-line role for the Panthers as soon as this season.
McFarland, 23, had 19 points in 46 games this past season which was the second best point production in his AHL career. McFarland will provide more depth for the Portland Pirates this season with the Panthers having already signed players like McKegg, Acolatse, Harper, Knight, and others.
“We are very pleased to have re-signed Quinton and John. Both Quinton and John are Panthers’ draft picks who will continue to grow and develop within our organization.” – GM Dale Tallon
