Restricted free agent and defenseman Alex Petrovic has signed a two-year, one-way contract with the Panthers. Petrovic was one of the Panthers’ eight restricted free agents to be tendered a qualifying offer just about two weeks ago and leaves Jonathan Huberdeau as the final RFA yet to sign a new contract with the team.
Petrovic, 23, was called up in late January to take the place of Dylan Olsen who was waived and sent down to San Antonio. The 6’4″, 206-pound defenseman would go on to play 33 games for the Panthers during the second half of the season, while tallying 3 points and bringing a steady and tough defensive game. It’s likely that Petrovic will remain on the Panthers’ blueline during the upcoming season rather than beginning in the AHL after performing admirably in both leagues this past season.
“Alex is a strong, physical defenseman who possesses great size and strength. He took great strides last season, logging valuable minutes for the Panthers. He was one of the Rampage’s top players and was named an American Hockey League All-Star. He is another building block for our team’s future.” – GM Dale Tallon
