The Panthers announced this afternoon that they’ve recalled Rocco Grimaldi from the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Grimaldi was sent down at the beginning of the season after sustaining an ankle injury during the Panthers’ preseason home game against the Dallas Stars and has recorded three assists in 5 games played with the Pirates this season.

Grimaldi was listed as a healthy scratch for the Portland Pirates today for their match against the Rochester Americans and it is unclear if he’ll join the Panthers in time for tonight’s game against the Capitals. The team has put Aleksander Barkov on the injured reserve retroactive to the game against the Blackhawks to make room for Grimaldi who’s likely being called up to take the spot of Jaromir Jagr as his status is still unknown after sitting out against the Bruins.
