Panthers Prospect Update #4: 11/2 – 11/8

Welcome to the fourth Panthers Prospect Update where we’ll recap how some of the players in the Panthers’ system have played over the past week, beginning 11/2 and ending 11/8.

Portland Pirates

  • Current record: 3-6-0
    • Are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and are the 3rd worst team in the league
  • Record since 11/2: 0-2-0 (5 straight losses)
  • Lost 3-2 to the Utica Comets on 11/4
    • Rob Schremp and Vincent Saponari scored the 2 goals for the Pirates
    • The Pirates went a lowly 1/9 on the power play
    • Mike McKenna made 19 saves on 22 shots
    • Chase Balisy tallied his first assist of the season
  • Lost 6-1 to the Springfield Falcons on 11/6
    • Mike McKenna allowed 3 goals on 15 shots and was replace in the 2nd period by Sam Brittain who then allowed 3 goals on 11 shots.
    • Chase Balisy scored the lone goal for the Pirates for his 2nd of the year
    • The Pirates went 0/3 on the power play
    • John McFarland returned to the lineup after missing a week with a lower body injury
  • Face the Hartford Wolfpack on at home 11/11 and 11/13, and they head to Providence to face the Bruins on 11/15
  • The following players are out with injury:
    • Brett Olson (1 week)
    • Greg McKegg (1-2 weeks)
    • Corban Knight (2-4 weeks)
    • Steven Hodges (about a month away from returning from off-season surgery)

Karch Bachman

LW, Chicago Steel (USHL)

Total Stats: 9 GP, 4G – 2A – 6PTS.

Since 11/2: 2 GP, 2G – 1A – 3PTS.

  • Is currently on a 3-game goal streak and a 4-game point streak during which he has 5 points

Thomas Schemitsch

LD, Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

Total Stats: 5 GP, 2G – 3A – 5PTS.

Since 11/2: 2GP, 1G – 1A – 2PTS

  • Has 5 points over 5 games since returning from a broken wrist sustained during rookie camp with the Panthers
  • Had a 2-point night on 11/7 including a goal and an assist

Ryan Bednard

G, Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)

Total Stats: 6 GP, 4-1-1, 2.82 GAA, .906 SV%

Since 11/2: 1GP, 1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .917 SV%

Lawson Crouse

LW, Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)

Total stats: 10GP, 5G – 7A – 12PTS

Since 11/2: 3GP, 1G – 2A – 3PTS

  • Had a 3-point night on 11/6 by recording a shorthanded goal and 2 assists

Juho Lammikko

LW, Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)

Total Stats: 18GP, 6G – 9A – 15PTS

Since 11/2: 3GP, 1G – 1A – 2PTS

  • Scored a goal on 11/6 and was named the 2nd star of the game (Crouse was the 1st star)
  • Is centering Lawson Crouse on Kingston’s top forward line

Matt Buckles

C, Cornell University (ECAC)

Total Stats: 4GP, 1G – 1A – 2PTS

Since 11/2: 2GP, 1G – 1A – 2PTS

  • Recorded a goal and an assist for his first 2 points of the season on 11/7 against Quinnipiac

Jayce Hawryluk

RW, Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)

Total Stats: 17GP, 11G – 12A – 23PTS

Since 11/2: 2GP, 1G – 0A – 1PTS

  • Scored the only goal for the Wheat Kings in a 4-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on 11/7
  • Currently tied for 8thth in the WHL Scoring Race with 23 points in 17 games.

Other Prospects

Samuel Montembeault

  • Started and lost both games of a back-to-back for Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on 11/7 and 11/8. Allowed 3 goals in the 1st game and 4 goals in the 2nd game.

Denis Malgin

  • Was sent down the GCK Lions on 11/2 by the ZSC Lions, however neither team has played since the end of October and don’t have another game until the 10th and the 12th respectively. Malgin has 4 points in 13 games with ZSC and 4 points in 6 games with GCK. The demotion sounds as though it’s temporary so he could be back with ZSC soon.
  • Malgin played in a U20 tournament for Switzerland during this two week break and tallied 2 goals in 3 games.

Patrick Shea

  • Tallied an unassisted goal for the Boston Bruins U18 team of the Massachusetts Selects Hockey League on 11/8.

Evan Cowley

  • Made 20 saves on 23 shots to earn a win against Colorado College on 11/6 for Denver University.
