Between the Lines

The Panthers will play the second game of their back-to-back on Friday against the Blue Jackets after winning their fourth straight game and third straight on the road against the Predators on Thursday night. Quinton Howden scored in the 1st period, which was the Panthers’ best frame of the game, and Jonathan Huberdeau scored his 2nd of the year on the power play in the 2nd period. The Predators dominated the game after the first period and spent most of the game in the Panthers’ zone forcing Roberto Luongo, who made 30 saves, to work hard to keep them in the game. The only Nashville goal came off a shot that deflected off a Panthers play and away from where Luongo was positioned in the crease.

Dmitry Kulikov has been given the OK to play against Columbus, although it’s unclear who’s spot he’ll take considering the Panthers’ defensive pairings have played well over the past several games. Nick Bjugstad will miss at least Friday’s game and Sunday’s against the Devils, and it’s unclear if he’ll be healthy when the Panthers return home for two games beginning December 8th against the Senators.

The Blue Jackets faced the Montreal Canadiens back on Tuesday and lost 2-1 in what was an evenly-matched game. Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves on 26 shots and Nick Foligno scored the lone Columbus goal in the first period on a feed from Ryan Johansen. The Blue Jackets have gone 10-9-0 since hiring John Tortorella as their new head coach on October 21st following a 1-7 start to the season.
