The Panthers announced today that they’ve reassigned defenseman Dylan Olsen to the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Olsen was called up on November 28th when Alex Petrovic was announced to have aggravated an injury sustained earlier this month. At the time, Dmitry Kulikov was out with injury as well, although he is back in the lineup tonight against the Blue Jackets.
Dylan Olsen played in 3 games for the Panthers and was paired up with Erik Gudbranson. Olsen registered 6 shots on goal, 4 of which came in his season debut on 11/29 against the Red Wings. He averaged about 14 minutes over the 3 games and played surprisingly well considering he was forced to leave the team last season for a long period of time due to personal issues. If his stint with the Panthers showed anything, it’s that they have a reliable 6th or 7th defenseman ready to be called up at any time if needed.
Dmitry Kulikov has not played since November 14th against the Lightning after being hit hard into the boards by J.T. Brown. Alex Petrovic was put on the injured reserve to make room for Kulikov on the active roster. Petrovic has missed 4 games with a nagging ankle injury.
