Panthers Prospect Update #8: 11/30 – 12/6

Welcome to the eighth Panthers Prospect Update where we’ll recap how some of the players in the Panthers’ system have played over the past week, beginning 11/30 and ending 12/6.

Portland Pirates

  • Current record: 9-11-0
  • Record since 11/30: 1-2-0
  • Lost 3-2 to the Providence Bruins on 12/4
    • Rob Schremp recorded his 8th goal of the season and an assist
    • Sena Acolatse scored his 4th goal of the season which leads all Portland defensemen
    • The Pirates went o/2 on the power play
    • Mike McKenna made 28 saves on 31 shots in the overtime loss
  • Won 2-1 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on 12/5
    • The Pirates were down 1-0 until Kyle Rau scored his team-leading 9th goal of the season off a net-front scrum with 59 seconds left in the 3rd period
    • John McFarland gave the Pirates the lead 10 seconds later on a nice drive to the net
    • The Pirates went o/5 on the power play which is currently ranked 27th in the league with a 10.4 percent success rate.
    • Sam Brittain had a bounce-back start making 26 saves on 27 shots
    • Mike Matheson now has 7 points in 18 games with a +6 rating

Other Prospects

Samuel Montembeault

  • Played in back-to-back games on 12/5 and 12/6…allowed 1 goal on 25 shots in the first game and 2 goals on 21 shots in the second game but lost both.
  • Owns the 5th best GAA average in the league of 2.79.
  • After attending Team Canada’s World Juniors summer camp as one of 3 goaltenders, Montembeault was not invited to attend the final preliminary camp.

Patrick Shea

  • After finishing a mini-season in the Massachusetts Selects Hockey League, Shea is now playing for Kimball Union Academy.
  • The Panthers’ 2015 7th-round pick currently has 4 goals and 6 assists in 5 games played, and he scored the game-winning goal for Kimball Union on 12/4 vs. St. Paul’s School.
