The Panthers announced today that Dylan Olsen has been recalled from the Portland Pirates of the AHL on an emergency basis after Steven Kampfer left last night’s game against the Capitals in the first period with what is presumed to be a knee injury. Nick Bjugstad has also been placed on the injured reserve with an unknown upper-body injury.
Olsen was last called up by the Panthers on November 28th to fill in for Alex Petrovic who is still on the injured reserve with an ankle injury, and he was sent back down last Friday. Olsen was solid in all 3 games he played while with the Panthers, and it’s good to know that the team has guys like Kampfer and Olsen who can step right in to the lineup and not look out of place.
Nick Bjugstad has not played since November 29th against the Red Wings after leaving practice on the 30th with an upper body injury. The Panthers have been keeping quiet about what the injury is and even Gerard Gallant has told the media that he doesn’t know much about it. George Richards of the Miami Herald was told that it’s not a concussion and it’s not a back injury, so it’s unclear as to what could be keeping him out for so long. The Panthers have played fairly well in his absence as Vincent Trocheck has been moved up the second line center position, however his presence is missed on the power play where Brandon Pirri has acted as the line trigger man from the face-off circle.
