Between the Lines

The Panthers will head to PNC Arena to face the Carolina Hurricanes for the second game of a back-to-back after defeating the Devils on Thursday night by a score of 5-1. The two teams last met on October 13th in the 3rd game of the season when the Panthers won 4-1 thanks to Connor Brickley’s first NHL goal which came as part of a 3-goal outburst in the 3rd period. Aleksander Barkov tallied his first goal of the year while Jussi Jokinen and Nick Bjugstad each tallied their 2nd. On Thursday, the Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Devils with goals scored by Jokinen and Dmitry Kulikov. Brandon Pirri scored one in the 2nd period, Reilly Smith got his 4th in 5 games, and Logan Shaw added his 2nd empty-netter in 5 games to give the Panthers the victory in front of Al Montoya.

The Hurricanes lost 4-3 to the Flyers on Tuesday despite Jeff Skinner recording his 2nd hat-trick in his past 3 games. Carolina has won 4 of its last 6 games including two 5-4 wins against the Coyotes and a 3-2 victory against the Montreal Canadiens. Despite their record, they’ve gone toe-to-toe with some of the top teams in the league recently including a 6-5 loss to the Dallas Stars and a 4-3 loss to the Rangers.
