Panthers reassign Grimaldi, Olsen to Portland Pirates

The Panthers announced today that both Rocco Grimaldi and Dylan Olsen have been sent back to the Portland Pirates of the AHL with Derek MacKenzie and Alex Petrovic returning from injuries.

Olsen arrived as an emergency recall on December 11th after Steven Kampfer went down with a leg injury and played 5 games. This was the second time Olsen has been recalled under emergency conditions, and if he played more than 10 total games, he’d have to pass through waivers where he’d likely be claimed by another team. Olsen tallied an assist on December 15th against the Islanders and finished with a -2 rating and 3 shots. Alex Petrovic was activated from the injured reserve which means Olsen must be sent back to the AHL.

Grimaldi will head back to the Pirates after his 2nd stint with the Panthers this year as a result of Derek MacKenzie returning from a leg injury. Derek MacKenzie is expected to play on Tuesday against the Senators and could slot in as the 3rd line center with Brandon Pirri and Logan Shaw.
