Between the Lines

The Panthers will face the Minnesota Wild in the second game of a back-to-back on Sunday after defeating the New York Rangers on Saturday for their 8th straight win which set a franchise record. Logan Shaw opened the scoring at the end of the 1st period, and Vincent Trocheck and Brandon Pirri both recorded goals to secure the shutout for Roberto Luongo who made 39 saves on the night in front of a sold out crowd of over 20,000 people. The Wild were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday by a score of 3-2 in a shootout in a game that saw Zach Parise and Eric Haula return from injuries.

Nick Bjugstad is likely to make his long-awaited return to the lineup against his hometown team on Sunday after missing all of December and the first game of 2016 with migraines. It’s not yet clear who will sit in favor of Bjugstad, although it is expected that the line of Jokinen, Trocheck, and Smith will remain intact. Al Montoya is the confirmed starter for Sunday with Luongo starting against the Rangers the day before.
