The Panthers announced this afternoon that they’ve called up defenseman Brent Regner from the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Regner could slot in for defenseman Erik Gudbranson who is doubtful after playing through an injury sustained against the Maple Leafs.
Brent Regner has 2 goals an 10 assists and a +3 rating in 42 games for the Pirates this season. This is the first career NHL call-up for the 26-year old Alberta-native and has had a solid year on the top defensive pairing for the Pirates. He’s known for his smooth skating, offensive instincts, good first pass, and reliable defensive game. The Panthers signed Regner to a 2-year, 2-way deal back on July 1st, 2015 and has served as the Pirates’ captain since the start of the season.
Defenseman Willie Mitchell remains on the injured reserve with an undisclosed injury and hasn’t played since the Panthers faced the Oilers on January 18th.
The Panthers will match up against the Penguins on Saturday night at home at 7:00 pm.
