Panthers Prospect Update #17: 2/1 – 2/7

Welcome to the 17th edition of the Panthers Prospect Update! Here, we’ll recap the past week of hockey (2/1 – 2/7) for Panthers prospects and players in college, juniors, international leagues, and the Portland Pirates, the team’s AHL affiliate.

Portland Pirates

  • Record since 2/1: 0-2-0
  • Current record: 26-18-1
  • Lost 5-0 to the Hartford Wolf Pack on 2/5

    • Mike McKenna allowed 4 goals on 25 shots and Sam Brittain made 14 saves on 14 shots after replacing him in the 2nd period
    • Greg McKegg, MacKenzie Weegar, and Cameron Gaunce finished the game with -4 ratings
    • The Pirates went o/4 on the power play
  •  Lost 3-1 to the Providence Bruins on 2/6

    • Greg McKegg scored the lone goal for the Pirates, and Josh Brown recorded his first career AHL assist on the play
    • Mike McKenna made 36 saves on 38 shots
    • The Pirates went o/4 on the power play for the second straight game

  • Notes

    • The Pirates named Nick Vitucci the team’s assistant coach. They were left without one after head coach Tom Rowe was promoted to associate GM of the Panthers and assistant coach Scott Allen became the Pirates’ head coach.

  • Scored a goal and tallied an assist on 2/6 against Guelph


Karch Bachman

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL), Left Wing

Season stats: 31 games, 13 goals, 5 assists, 18 points

  • Was traded from the Chicago Steel to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on 2/4
  • Scored a goal in his 2nd game with his new team for his 13th of the season


Ryan Bednard

Youngstown Phantoms (USHL), Goaltender

Season stats: 24 games, 13-4-4-1 record, 2.49 GAA, .915 SV%

  • Made 29 saves on 31 shots for his 13th win of the season on 2/6 against Tri-City

Colin Stevens

Manchester Monarchs (ECHL), Goaltender

Season stats: 18 games, 11-5-1 record, 2.35 GAA, .918 SV%

  • Recorded his 11th win of the season on 2/6 after making 27 saves on 29 shots
  • Has won each of his past 4 starts for the Monarchs

Ian McCoshen

Boston College (NCAA), Defenseman

Season stats: 27 games, 6 goals, 11 assists, 17 points

  • Recorded 2 assists in the annual Beanpot tournament game against Harvard University on 2/1
