Panthers Prospect Update #19: 2/15 – 2/21

Welcome to the 19th edition of the Panthers Prospect Update! Here, we’ll recap the past week of hockey (2/15 – 2/21) for Panthers prospects and players in college, juniors, international leagues, and the Portland Pirates, the team’s AHL affiliate.

Portland Pirates

  • Record since 2/15: 0-3-0
  • Current record: 29-21-1
  • Lost 5-2 to the Utica Comets on 2/17

    • Chase Balisy scored his 5th goal of the season and was assisted by MacKenzie Weegar and Dylan Olsen
    • Mike McKenna made 26 saves on 31 shots
    • The Pirates went 0/5 on the power play
  •  Lost 2-1 to the Rochester Americans on 2/19

    • Corban Knight scored the lone goal (2nd of the season) for the Pirates in his 5th game back since being sent down by the Panthers
    • Sam Brittain made 36 saves on 38 shots but was credited with an overtime loss
    • The Pirates went 0/3 on the power play
    • Mike McKenna left the team to be with his wife who was giving birth to their second child…Colin Stevens served as the backup

  • Lost 3-1 to the Toronto Marlies on 2/20

    • Brent Regner scored his 3rd goal of the season on assists from Chase Balisy and Rocco Grimaldi
    • Sam Brittain made 30 saves on 33 shots in his 2nd straight start
    • The Pirates went 0/3 on the power play

  • Next 3 games for Portland

    • vs. Hartford Wolf Pack, 2/24 (away)
    • vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2/26 (home)
    • vs. Springfield Falcons, 2/28 (home)

Jayce Hawryluk

Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL), Right Wing

Season stats: 45 games, 30 goals, 43 assists, 73 points

  • Had a 6 point game on 2/17 against the Kootenay Ice including 2 goals, 4 assists, and a +5 rating
  • Recorded 3 assists on 2/19 against the Edmonton Oil Kings and extended his point streak to 8 games
  • 8-game point streak ended on 2/21 against the Prince Albert Raiders

Thomas Schemitsch

Owen Sound Attack (OHL), Defenseman

Season stats: 41 games, 8 goals, 16 assists, 24 points

  • Scored 2 goals on 2/15 against the Oshawa Generals for the 3rd multi-goal game of his career

Lawson Crouse

Kingston Frontenacs (OHL), Left Wing

Season stats: 38 games, 15 goals, 27 assists, 42 points

  • Recorded 2 assists on 2/15 against the Barrie Colts
  • Scored his 15th goal of the season on 2/19 against the Ottawa 67’s

Juho Lammikko

Kingston Frontenacs (OHL), Center

Season stats: 48 games, 15 goals, 26 assists, 42 points

  • Recorded his first career OHL hat-trick on 2/15 against the Barrie Colts
  • Tallied a goal and an assist on 2/19 against the Ottawa 67’s and another assist on 2/21 against Niagara

Samuel Montembeault

Blainville-Boisbrand Armada (QMJHL), Goaltender

Season stats: 38 games, 13-23-0 record, 2.70 GAA, .896 SV%

  • Made 32 saves on 35 shots on 2/17 against the Moncton Wildcats, but was credited with a loss
  • Made 38 saves on 40 shots on 2/18 against the Charlottetown Islanders in a 3-2 shootout loss
  • Allowed 4 goals on 30 shots on 2/20 against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles

Steven Hodges

Manchester Monarchs (ECHL), Center

Season stats: 5 game, 1 goals, 2 assists, 3 points

  • Scored his first goal of the season on 2/19 against the Reading Royals

Denis Malgin

ZSC Lions (NLA), Center

Season stats: 35 games, 5 goals, 9 assists, 14 points

  • Returned from injury on 2/21 after missing two games and recorded an assist on a 1st period goal

Karch Bachman

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL), Left Wing

Season stats: 35 games, 14 goals, 8 assists, 22 points

  • Recorded 2 assists on 2/21 against the Youngstown Phantoms and fellow Panthers goalie prospect Ryan Bednard

Evan Cowley

University of Denver (NCAA), Goaltender

Season stats: 14 games, 7-5-0 record, 2.28 GAA, .923 SV%

  • Made 21 saves on 21 shots in 40 minutes of relief on 2/18 against Colorado College
  • Made 5 saves on 5 shots in 4 minutes of relief on 2/19 against Colorado College
