Between the Lines

The Panthers and Jets will face each other for the second time this season on Tuesday night in Winnipeg. The Panthers are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Sunday afternoon which saw Aaron Ekblad score the lone goal for Florida. A breakaway goal by Erik Haula in the 3rd period pretty much sealed the deal. Roberto Luongo replaced Al Montoya early in the 1st period after Marco Scandella collided with him in the crease, and as a result, the Panthers recalled Mike McKenna on emergency basis from the Portland Pirates of the AHL. McKenna will likely serve as the backup for Luongo on Tuesday night as Montoya is said to be day-to-day.

The newest Panthers – Jiri Hudler, Jakub Kindl, and Teddy Purcell – are all expected to play on Tuesday night for the first time since being acquired on Saturday afternoon. Brandon Pirri was also dealt to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday before the trade deadline, so he’s no longer with the Panthers. Mike Matheson and Greg McKegg were returned to the Portland Pirates while Garrett Wilson, Kyle Rau, and Logan Shaw will remain with the Panthers at least for now.

The Jets will be without Andrew Ladd who was traded to the Blackhawks on Thursday night for Marko Dano and more. They’re coming off a 4-1 loss to the Penguins on Saturday in which Blake Wheeler scored the lone Jets goal. The Panthers and Jets faced off just over a week ago in South Florida in a game which the Panthers won 3-1 thanks to a 2-goal night by Jaromir Jagr.
