Between the Lines

The Panthers and Coyotes will face off for the second time in just over a week on Saturday night in Arizona. The Panthers are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Avalanche on Thursday night despite an incredible 3rd period effort which saw them put 24 shots on goal but to no avail. Erik Gudbranson and Brian Campbell each scored for the Panthers while Roberto Luongo made 23 saves on 26 shots, most of which kept the Panthers in the game in the 3rd. Newcomers Jiri Hudler and Teddy Purcell did not make it to the game in time after having their visa issues sorted out just prior, however it’s expected that they’ll be in the lineup tonight against Arizona. Al Montoya is expected to get the start for the first time since suffering a stiff neck following a collision with Marco Scandella last Sunday. Mike McKenna was sent back to the Portland Pirates on Friday after serving as Luongo’s backup for 2 games.

The Coyotes have lost 6 straight games and have scored 2 or fewer goals in each of those 6 games. They’re coming off a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday in which Anthony Duclair scored the lone Arizona goal. They’ll be without Max Domi against the Panthers after the league suspended him for one game for instigating a fight in the final 5 minutes of the game. Louis Domingue is expected to start in goal.

The two teams last met on February 25th in Sunrise when the Panthers defeated the Coyotes 3-2 thanks to a 2-goal performace by Aleksander Barkov. Saturday night’s game will be the Panthers’ final game of the regular season against the Western Conference.
