Between the Lines

The Panthers and Flyers will meet for the 3rd time this season with Florida coming off a 6-2 win over the Senators on Thursday night. Jaromir Jagr extended his team-lead in goals to 23 by scoring twice, Vincent Trocheck had his second 4-point game of the season, while Jussi Jokinen and Jonathan Huberdeau each tallied a goal and an assist. The win was a big one for the Panthers after having lost 5 of their last 6 games and after seeing their Atlantic Division lead wither away completely. Jokinen extended his point streak to 9 games and will look to tie his career-high of 10 games when he suits up against the Flyers.

Teddy Purcell missed his second straight game with a day-to-day groin injury while Quinton Howden, Kyle Rau, and Steven Kampfer were each healthy scratches. Willie Mitchell remains out until next week at the earliest, although we’ve received information from a source that suggests he could remain out for longer than expected.

The Flyers are coming off a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night, so they’ll be facing the Panthers in the second game of a back-to-back. Gagner, Read, and Schenn each scored while Steve Mason stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced. Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who was born in Pembroke Pines and raise in Margate, is expected to suit up against the Panthers for the first time in his NHL career. Gostisbehere grew up watching the Panthers and learned to skate at the Panthers’ Ice Den in Coral Springs, then known as Incredible Ice. He was scratched last season against the Panthers during his first brief NHL stint.

The two teams last met on October 12th in Philadelphia when the Flyers won 1-0 after the Panthers defeated them on Opening Night by a score of 7-1.
