Panthers Prospect Update #23: 3/14 – 3/20

Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Panthers Prospect Update! Here, we’ll recap the past week of hockey (3/14 – 3/20) for Panthers prospects and players in college, juniors, international leagues, and the Portland Pirates, the team’s AHL affiliate.

Portland Pirates

  • Record since 3/14: 1-1-1
  • Current record: 32-26-6
  • Lost 4-3 in OT to the Hartford Wolf Pack on 3/18

    • Rob Schremp scored his 18th goal of the season and first since January 29th
    • Chase Balisy and Connor Brickley each scored their 6th goal of the season
    • Mike McKenna made 35 saves on 39 shots
    • The Pirates went 0/2 on the power play and lost their 7th game in a row

  •  Lost 2-1 in OT to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on 3/19

    • Mike Matheson’s 6th goal of the season tied the game at 1 in the 3rd period
    • Sam Brittain made 20 saves on 22 shots
    • The Pirates went 0/7 on the power play and lost their 8th straight game

  • Won 4-2 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on 3/20

    • Wayne Simpson scored two goals including an empty-netter
    • Shane Harper scored his 9th goal of the season giving him 6 points in 6 games since returning from injury
    • Rocco Grimaldi scored his 16th goal of the season

Jayce Hawryluk

  • Scored a goal and tallied 1 assist against Swift Current on 3/15
  • Went without a point on 3/18 for the first time in about 2 weeks
  • Recorded a hat-trick on 3/19 in his final WHL regular season game

Ryan Bednard
