Between the Lines

In the final game of the 2015-16 regular season, the Panthers will return home to face the Carolina Hurricanes after losing to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday by a score of 3-1. Jaromir Jagr scored the lone goal for the Panthers while Aleksander Barkov notched an assist to extend his career-high point streak to 7 games. Derek MacKenzie sat out and got some rest in while Quinton Howden drew back into the lineup. The Panthers recalled Mike Matheson from the AHL on an emergency basis on Friday afternoon with Steven Kampfer presumably suffering from some sort of right ankle/knee injury which forced him to leave Thursday’s game early. Erik Gudbranson is said to be OK and could sit out Saturday’s game in order to rest before the playoffs.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Canadiens on Thursday during which Riley Nash and Noah Hanifin scored the lone Carolina goals in front of Cam Ward who made 27 saves on 31 shots.

The two teams last met on December 18th when Willie Mitchell and Riley Smith scored to help shut out the Hurricanes by a score of 2-0.
