Between The Lines

The Panthers and Islanders will meet once again at the Barclays Center on Wednesday night for game 4 after an OT thriller on Sunday which ended a 4-3 Islanders win. The Panthers had a 2-0 lead after goals by Reilly Smith and Nick Bjugstad, and they nearly extended it to 3-0 with a top-shelf snipe by Aaron Ekblad, but the goal ended up being challenged and overturned for being offsides. Florida allowed a goal by Ryan Pulock before making it 3-1, and the Islanders went on to score 3 straight, including 1 in overtime, to take a 2-1 series lead.

Vincent Trocheck who has been out since March 29th with a fractured fibula, has been skating for the past few days and is said to be close to a return. He practiced with the team on Tuesday, although not fully, and could be ready to go for game 5 on Friday in Florida. Greg McKegg practiced as the 3rd line center while Derek MacKenzie skated with the 4th line, opposite of how they played in game 3 on Sunday. Gerard Gallant told the media after practice not to read into McKegg being on the 3rd line and that there could be some surprises with the lineup on Wednesday. It’s also expected that Logan Shaw will slot in on the 4th line for Shawn Thornton.
