Panthers’ Matheson wins gold, Barkov and Jokinen earn silver at 2016 World Championship

Mike Matheson, Aleksander Barkov, and Jussi Jokinen each represented their countries at this year’s 2016 IIHF World Championship, and all three left the tournament with medals when it concluded today. Canada defeated Finland by a score of 2-0 in today’s gold medal game to wrap things up.

Here’s a recap of the three Panthers that participated in the World Championship tournament:

Mike Matheson, Canada

Medal earned: Gold

Stats: 10 games played, 2 goals, 4 assists, +11 rating

Notes: His +11 rating led all defensemen in the tournament and ranked him 2nd amongst all players. Also named the Top Defenseman of the tournament.

Aleksander Barkov, Finland

Medal earned: Silver

Stats: 9 games played, 3 goals, 6 assists, +3 rating

Notes: Missed one game with the flu.

Jussi JokinenFinland

Medal earned: Silver

Stats: 10 games played, 3 goals, 7 assists, +5 rating

Notes: Recorded points in the first 6 games of the tournament.
