The Panthers recently announced that they’ll be unveiling a brand new team logo and jerseys – home and away – at a party being held at the BB&T Center on Thursday, June 2nd.
News broke of the Panthers redesigning their logo and jerseys back in early December thanks to George Richards of the Miami Herald, and since then, a fair amount of information regarding the new designs has been uncovered. The new jerseys reportedly feature a red and blue that is identical to the current design, in addition to gold that is deeper and less yellow, while the front features a horizontal stripe that extends onto the sleeves and passes through the new logo at the center of the body. The back, which is partially pictured above – as tweeted by Panthers co-owner Doug Cifu on Twitter – makes use of a slightly different font for the player name than today’s jerseys as well as a gold trim around the player number.
The new logo, which is said to be incredibly similar to the one to the left that was leaked by UniWatch, is based off the shield design of the 101st Airborne Division, an army division that Panthers owner Vincent Viola served in, and it also includes a more natural and realistic panther. The top of the shield is rumored to be labeled “Panthers” when the team plays at home and “Florida” when they play on the road. The Panthers’ logo has remained relatively the same since the team’s inception back in 1993 with changes including the removal of the broken stick and some tweaks to lettering and colors. The jerseys have also been tweaked over the years with the current design being released at the start of the 2011-12 season. The Panthers used an all-blue third jersey from 2009 until 2012 and it marked the biggest change in the Panthers’ logo and jersey in the team’s history.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 5:00 PM outside the arena and the doors will open at 6:00 PM in advance of the 7:00 Pm unveiling. Shawn Thornton, Vincent Trocheck, Aaron Ekblad, and Steven Kampfer will be at the event to model the new uniforms and take selfies with 300 lucky fans.
