Between The Lines
The Panthers will head on the road for the first time this season to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. It will be their first big test after defeating the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings on Thursday and Saturday, and the Lightning were able to do the same. The Lightning won 3-2 against New Jersey on Saturday, although they were forced to come back from a 2-0 1st period deficit. Steven Stamkos scored his first goal of the season while Alex Killorn and Valtteri Filppula each tallied their second markers in as many games and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves on 34 shots.
The Panthers last played on Saturday when they handed the Red Wings a 4-1 loss thanks to a 3-point performance from Jonathan Marchessault and goals from Vincent Trocheck, Colton Sceviour, and Aleksander Barkov, the latter of which came late in the 3rd period to give the team a comfortable lead. Although the power play continued to struggle, the Panthers’ defense and penalty kill helped to hold down the fort.
James Reimer is expected to get the start on Tuesday and it will be his first as a Panther since being acquired as a free-agent in July. Roberto Luongo was named the NHL’s 3rd Star of the Week after posting a 0.99 goals-against average and a 0.957 save percentage in two games.
