Between The Lines

The Panthers will kick off a 4-game road trip on Tuesday when they face the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time this season. The Panthers are coming off an exciting 5-2 victory at home over the Avalanche on Saturday which saw Shane Harper notch the first 2 goals of his NHL career, the first goal of the season for Aaron Ekblad, and Jonathan Marchessault continue his hot pace to start the season. Kyle Rau slotted in on the 2nd-line left wing in place of Jussi Jokinen who was dealing with a tweaked knee that carried over from the World Cup, and he did not travel with the Panthers on their road trip.

The Penguins lost for the 3rd time in their last 4 games on Saturday when the Predators put up 5 straight goals, including 4 in the 2nd period. Scott Wilson scored the lone goal for Pittsburgh while Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves on 30 shots. Sidney Crosby is expected to make his season debut after missing the Penguins’ 6 games to start the year with concussion symptoms.

Each of the 3 games between the two teams went past regulation with the Panthers winning the most recent matchup (2/15) in a shootout.
